I am very happy to introduce three excellent stories this month!
The first, Tim Clark’s “Catholic High School Confessions,” caused a minor disruption in my office, because I laughed out loud when I first read it, then I had to read it to my coworkers, who also found it hilarious. Perhaps living in Spain gives one a different perspective on Catholicism and its adherents, but in any case, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. This is Tim’s second story for Bull & Cross, and his first was a wonderfully creepy tale you can find here. You should read it too.
Next up, we have “Everynaut,” by Marcus Vance. This story just ticked all my boxes. It’s set in space. It dabbles in philosophical questions with a sinister undertone. And it leaves the reader totally entertained. (I’m in agreement with Chabon that the primary purpose of storytelling is entertainment. If you disagree, you can take it up with him.)
And finally, the engaging “License Plate Peon” by Thomas M. McDade. The voice caught me almost immediately, and by the fourth sentence, I knew I wanted to publish this story. It reminded me a little bit of John D. MacDonald, but it stands on its own.
So, grab a cold soda, a bag of pretzels, and a comfy chair and settle in for this month’s Bull & Cross!
Happy Reading,
